About this place
The abura-kasu udon is a good place to start at Matsuya Udon. One visitor said the abura-kasu and onion were simmered with the broth in a small pot after ordering, and chose the slightly rich-tasting dish for breakfast. Another visitor enjoyed the flavour of the broth and the soft noodles, which they described as distinctly Osaka-style. If you are looking for noodles that are less firm than Sanuki udon, this bowl is worth considering.
For a meal with tempura, there is also ebi-ten udon or soba, topped with prawn tempura. One visitor’s ebi-ten soba came with seaweed and pumpkin tempura; they noted that the broth was restrained in sweetness and the soba was well cooked. It may suit anyone in the mood for a warm noodle dish with tempura.
If noodles alone do not feel quite substantial enough, the menu lists set combinations of a rice bowl with kake or zaru noodles, as well as rice balls served with noodles. Rice bowls include options such as oyakodon, kakiage-don and katsudon, so you can choose what to make the centre of the meal. The restaurant opens from 7:00, and its menu includes a breakfast set with udon or soba. There are options for choosing a combination and portion to suit either breakfast or lunch.
